My son's girlfriend came over for the weekend and she had asked me if she could look at some pictures of my son as a little boy. So I brought out a few of fashioned albums and we sat on the couch flipping through them. We spent a good half hour oohing and aahing at how cute or silly or loveable he was back then.
But as a designer of modern photobooks, these old fashioned albums, overstuffed with their plastic sheets, divided into 4 photos per page were awkward and difficult to handle. The three ring metal binders snapped open at some point and a bunch of pages came loose and it took some time to thread them back through and snap them back shut. And to be honest, flipping through them got boring at some point.
These albums were all we had back then, so we were relegated to standard size photos and if you had a mix of portrait and landscape, you ended up turning the album this way and that every minute or two.

But now things have changed.
Technology in the world of graphics has made preserving photos into works of art. On one double spread, you can have both portrait and landscape, photos enlarged for that wow factor and shrunk to fit into the perfect spot that completes that page. You can add fun and beautiful elements that work with the theme of your photobook and enhance your memories. You can add text in a creative way that is both informative and catchy instead of slipping the photo out of it's plastic slot and writing on the back like we used to.
The possibilities are endless.
And because sometimes too much to choose from is not always a good thing, leaving the designing to us is a way to get the photobook you've always dreamed of.
